So, imo, genshin is kinda fascinating but it’s also pretty difficult to truly form an opinion about its design because it isn’t a full game and it keeps getting new content (like housing) at a steady pace (I have been playing since it was released and comparing the state of the game from that time to now really makes me wonder how drastically different it will be next year) and because despite all the content, it is a gacha game at its core which definitely influences all the design aspects (which is whole another thing I’m not going to get into aside from saying that always be careful with your money when it comes to gacha)Īs for gameplay stuff, well, I think we all know the comparisons to BoTW which are definitely there but imo it’s more like BoTW has invented a new type openworld genre (Ubisoft has made it’s own ‘‘BoTW clone’‘ Immortals Fenyx Rising that has climbing and gliding) so the comparison is starting to seem a bit unfair, especially since again, GI keeps getting more and more content and getting its own identity.

Oh wow this is a really interesting question but idk if I’m qualified to answer because I still haven’t gotten into the industry (thanks covid for making it almost impossible to get a job as a junior) and because my own expertise is more on the UI/UX side of game design but I’ll do my best to answer this!
